THE PROCESS
Where do I begin?
Referral forms will be completed prior to your release. Referral forms can be obtained from Educational, Vocational Staff, or your Youthful Offender Counselor at each facility across the state. All forms are reviewed and forwarded to the appropriate Life Skills Center in your designated area. Parole agents may also assist offenders after release. It is your responsibility to contact the Life Skills Center to set up an appointment to begin the transition process. If you were unable to complete a referral form prior to release, you may still be able to utilize the services. Please contact the office nearest you to determine if you may qualify.
What Happens Next?
Life Skills Center staff will always address your immediate needs first. Those issues usually involve food, shelter, and medical issues. The primary focus is Employment. The barriers to employment faced by you are varied and must be addressed individually. Those barriers may include lack of transportation, need for training, and often need for proper work attire. Life Skills Center staff strives to assist with these issues and cooperatively work with you to obtain employment as quickly as possible. It may be necessary to provide follow up assistance as well.
