MAKE MONEY.......HAVE FUN!
As the tourism industry has grown in Southern Illinois, the need for industry-targeted training has increased. Funded by Illinois Opportunity Returns Program, the Southern Illinois Collegiate Common Market (SICCM) has joined forces with the Carbondale Convention and Tourism Bureau, regional tourism agencies, and the region’s two and four-year colleges to create a broad-based tourism education alliance that is unmatched in the nation. The southern region’s community colleges and Southern Illinois University have worked to enhance their tourism related curricula focusing on restaurant management, culinary arts, hospitality management, lodging and hotel management and recreational management.
An entirely new focus on general tourism management has resulted in the creation of region-wide certificate and degree programs designed to prepare graduates for careers in one or more phases of tourism in southern Illinois. Each community college has taken the lead in a particular focus area and the Alliance offers students the ability to participate in courses at any or all colleges at in-district tuition rates. Some classes may be available by distance learning.
The Alliance provides opportunities for students throughout southern Illinois to access a variety of programs to better meet their tourism career goals. Check out the opportunities at www.siccm.com.
